Hundreds of paintballers will be gathered at Padang Merbok all this weekend to continue their fight to emerge as the champions of the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit (MPOC) 2010 season, held annually by the Paintball Asia League Series (PALS).
With a total of four divisions, there’s a spot for everyone, from the pros in Division 1 to the beginners and rookies in Division 4.
Over 40 teams will be competing this weekend, including local favourites such as team Xfox, Xtioneers, Demonz Red, Dark Angels, and Kejahatan, media teams from Malay Mail and 8TV Quickies, and regional teams such as Australians Perth City Trauma, and Singaporean Red Sevens.
Fans of celebrity host Henry Golding will be delighted to know that he will be playing in the 8TV Quickies team.

This weekend’s tournament is the fourth instalment in the local paintball league, which has a total of five legs held throughout the year. Usually held in Xtion Paintball Park, Bukit Jalil, this will be the first time in two years that the league has been taken elsewhere.
“We’ve received a lot of feedback from players about wanting to try out new fields,” says Allan Phang, Assistant Tournament Director of PALS, “and since Xtion Paintball Park is now under renovation and DBKL has been kind enough to help us with Padang Merbok, we thought this was a perfect opportunity, especially with our new Sup’Air arenas.”
Sup’Air, based in Europe, is known to make the best speedball fields in the world, and Sup’Air arenas are completely inflatable, self-supporting structures, negating the need for the usual metal poles.
The MPOC will be the first ever tournament in Asia to use these arenas, which will also be used for the paintball World Cup Asia in November.

“Our Sup’Air arenas are very structurally safe, and have been used for years for the Millennium Series in Europe,” says Simon Fournier of Sup’Air. “We’re very happy to have tied up exclusively with PALS to bring the best in paintball arenas to Asia.”
Fournier, as part of the research and development team for Sup’Air, is here in Kuala Lumpur to assist PALS in setting up the arenas for this weekend. Paintball field operators who are eager to learn more about Sup’Air fields will be delighted to know that Fournier will be holding an open tech session at the MPOC on Sunday at 1pm.
This leg will also feature the introduction of sports radars for the marshals to use in-field to ensure that all markers are shooting within the regulated speeds of 300 feet per second for all games.
The tournament village is open to public, and visitors can purchase tags which allow them into the player’s areas to mingle with their favourite paintballers. Visitor tags are priced at RM20 and valid for both days.
